Got up early and headed out to Grand Lake. Beutiful morning to be out with a slight breeze and air temp at 60. I started pulling spinners with a leech in 15-20ft with no luck. After several location changes I went to a nightcrawler rig and pull it real slow over the top of weeds in 12 ft. I could see fish in the cover of the weeds and also suspended just over the top of them. It wasn’t long when I hooked into this nice 18" eye. I used 1/8 oz weight with two floats on the line about 3 ft or so behind the weight to help keep the nightcrawler above the weeds. With that trolling real slow worked for me.
The fish seemed to be in a pretty tight huddle as I would lose them on the graph pretty quick in my passes. I worked that same area for 3 hours and pulled out some real nice eaters. I did end up breaking off the biggest fish of the day right beside the boat. I was using a home-made crawler harness and the line was apparently to light.
And as usual, I can’t go to Grand Lake without hooking into one of these critters.
So after 4 hours on the water I loaded up and found part or parts of my trolling motor missing. This is the first time this has happended to me. I know it was there while I was fishing. The 40mph stint to the boat ramp must have been to much for it. This ever happen to you? Overall a good morning on the lake.
Nice fish Dman!
Did you go back and try and find your prop???
