Rock River Walleye Report

With water at flood stages walleyes are still on a biting frenzy. Check out the rest of my report to see how I caught nice walleyes like the one in this picture.

Water is very high, the highest since 1979. With high water at flood stage walleye move back up the river system. Making my kind of fishing easy. There are key points to catch these walleyes with river conditions at flood stages yet. They just don’t jump into the boat, but a 1/4oz to 3/8oz nuckle ball jig with a half of a night crawler or a leech will bring some nice walleyes in your boat like this one my buddies caught on the left.

Hi vis line is a must like four pound fireline in the flame/green like I like to use so you can feel every rock and bump and the little bite when the walleye sucks in that leech or half of crawler. The best spots to catch these walleyes is in low current areas. With the river at flood stage current is very fast. So the key to catching walleye like these on the right is to find current breaks and eddies.

All Jefferson County launches are close right now because of high water, some Rock county launches are closed also. All of Rock River is NO WAKE in Jefferson and Rock Counties right now and will be for some time. The only boat launches that I know that you can launch at is in Newville WI at Anchor Inn Bar on Hwy 59 and Habor Rec Marine and Lakeview Camp grounds all for a fee. The fishing for walleyes is hot right now cast jigs in low current area or eddies or the trolling bite on Lake Koshkonong. It’s all the fishermans dream right now so get out there and enjoy the fun and you will catch nice walleyes like this one on the left.
