Green Bay Walleye Fishing

Water temperatures are really warming up around the entire Bay with all of the recent hot weather we have been receiving. water temps are in the 70 degree range around the entire Bay with warmer water in the southern and central portions of the bay.

We have spent the past few days fishing some areas around the lower Bay of Green Bay fishing both shallow water along with trolling mud flats out in the central basin area. When I am fishing out in open water I am looking for areas that have pods of baitfish that in turn will be holding feeding walleyes close by.

We have been finding success trolling #12 Rapala Husky Jerks along with the #7 Storm Smash Shads. Lure color has varied from day to day depending on weather we have sunlight or cloudy conditions. On sunny days we have had better success on blue and gold and on cloudy days we have done well on Firetiger and purplescent.

Fishing yesterday in the wake of a recent cold front accompanied with strong north winds we found a pile of active fish that were in a small area on the windward side of a reef and we had to make precise trolling passes and get the baits right in the zone and we would have multiple hook ups each time we went through that area. This was an ideal situation for us to put the trolling rods away and sit and cast this area but thanks to three foot waves we were not able to have that option so we would just keep making repeated trolling passes through that area resulting in walleyes each pass.

  1. Great Job Paul on dialing in those monster Green Bay Eyes !!!

    Hey ?

In your trolling and casting the bay… do you ever hook up with any other fish ?

    thanks

  2. I have caught Muskies, giant smallies and channel cats while both trolling and casting for eyes on green bay. Tons of fish out there.

  3. Nice stuff Paul, we have seen a predominant trolling bite setting up by me as well as of late. The rapala Minnow rap is starting to dominate. Keep Catching – QB
