Dispite this spring being windier than normal with wind direction shifting daily, lower temps and nearly daily showers walleye fishing hasn’t beenn too bad. It has been quite difficult to fish the same spot two days in a row and have the same success. My groups all limited on walleyes for this past week. The biggest idividual walleye and pike were caught Saturday pulling gold #4 RS Shad Raps in 8 foot of water over one foot of vegetation. Darcy from Truman MN caught the biggest walleye of the week (27.25″ released) and also the largest northern of the week at (33.5″). Congratulations Darcy!!!
As I mentioned, the wind has been strong and shifting directions each day. This week we had success pitching Shad Raps into emerging cattails and along woody, sandy shorelines. We also trolled over weedbeds and slipbobbered trees and long points. It was a toss-up whether crawlers or leeches worked best but I’m leaning towards crawlers. I found that flourescent green Gamakatsu hooks really worked well. Green is a good color here. Andrew and Alex from Omaha are holding a couple of their first days catch. On day two of the Furlow Group’s stay all four guide boats limited on walleye and pike. Our electric knives are still smoking. They limited each day on walleye. We all agreed that on day three NO MORE PIKE but one person who shall remain nameless couldn’t resist and had to bring in 5.
The Third Annual Wright-Hennepin County RECA Blow-out was held at the West Bay Resort. These guys were the first group ever to stay at West Bay. This makes it year three. See you ice fishing? We had a great time at the fish fry Saturday night. You guys fed Maggie too much. I can’t get her off the couch today.
