I was on Castle Rock lake the 28th and the 29th for two guided trips with new guys both days. The 28th I had 3 guys in the boat and their all had the first name of Dan, so when I told one to something they all responded and all we had some good laughs. Well now for the fishing part of the report.
The 28th we started on the water about 12:30 , so we started out trolling for the afternoon trip. We were running number 5 flicker shads on all 6 poles on the boards. We ran the baits back at 30 feet and also at 35 feet back from the boards. We ran the course on the old river channel down from the tressel. We had 3 different storm fronts come trough for the day and we luck out with no lighting at all . Got some walleyes and white bass and a 14 inch crappie trolling. After about 2 hours of trolling we decided it was time to get out the jigging rods and split shot poles for the rest of the day.
The wind was out of the north west and the spots we trolled it was just perfect to hit the same gps spots on the lowrance we all ready marked. We started out getting walleyes on the jigs on the first drft and we were off to some fast action jigging. We caught about 35 walleyes and mostly shorts and 2 legals. We also boated about 8 catfish that were just about perfect for some dinner also.
On the 29th we had 3 guys again and we set out in the morning jigging and split shot rigging. Got to a hump on the lowrance and got our poles baited up and got a dandy 18 incher on the first 50 feet of drifting and a nice crappie also. We boated several eyes and crappies on every pass and some whitebass and the pesty sheep head as well. Jigged till about noon and then headed to get some lunch at one of the resturants on the lake. When we came back out, we set out the trolling rods and put out the flickers and started passing through all my gps spots on the Yellow river side of the lake with some more fast action in this spot . We were getting crappies, walleyes and whitebass in this area also.
Overall we had two great days of fishing despite the rain and the high winds to deal with both days.
Looks like a nice couple days Jeff.
Thanks John, going back in the morning.
