Spirit Lake,IA June 8th

What a past few days we’ve had on the water. The bite continues to be very good with alot of smaller fish being caught.Keep trying as you will get a few keepers. When Cole, Austin, and myself started fishing we had zero wind to work with.I found a 14′ rock hump with fish all over it so we slowly worked the trolling motor around it while vertical jigging live bait and plastics. Here is Austin with his first legal eye of the day.

We were able to do this for about 2 hours until we got a strong North wind at 15-20 mph.I then deciced to drift live bait over a area from 14-17′ and the action was very good.Although alot of smaller 11-13" walleyes are being caught you can get a nice bonus fish from time to time.Myself with a 26" northern.

We slowly added a few walleyes to the live well and the boys were having a blast.Cole and I were using a lindy rig while Austin was using a bouncer/spinner combo.Cole has been working with his live bait rigging and it starting to get the hang of it.Here is a 22" walleye that I caught, the biggest of the new year for me so far. After a few quick pics we decided to let her go to grow bigger and maybe be a trophy for a youngster someday.

After we were done for the day we had 6 eyes in the boat from 14-16"’s and alot of great memories. One of them being Austin’s nice 30" northern that he caught. It was fun to watch this fight and his eyes when we got it netted and in the boat.Goog job Austin!!!

  1. Great job Ryan. Austin and Cole are going to remember these days for a long time. Can’t beat a day fishing with the kids.

Good to hear about the boys catching fish. To be fishing with your sons has got to be enjoyable for you and a great deal of fun for them. They are learning a hobby that they will enjoy the rest of their lives and creating memories that will never be forgotten (enlarged maybe, but not forgotten)!

    Thanks for the report.
