With high and rising water one would think the fishing would get tougher. Nope! This weekend was pretty good once again boating 30-50 fish days. Also the trophy walleyes were out in full force once again for a couple of young lads.
My trip this week was with Craig Baller of HiMec, Inc. of Rochester, his kid Mitchell, and Mitchell’s friend Josh. The trophies this weekend was nothing of the biggest but trophy’s in these kids eyes. This first picture is Craig’s best catch of the day. He took this one within the first few minutes of the trip. Right behind him was Josh with his first walleye he has ever caught making this a real trophy in his eyes.
The morning started out slow with little wind in the area I was working, but within a few hours the wind picked up and so did the fishing. The best presentation this weekend was throwing small cranks up against flooded shorelines. As water levels come up look for these walleyes to move shallow. Our deepest spot we fished this day and Saturday was not more that 5’. Areas with lily pads and cabbage starting to make there way off the bottom were some of our key areas. Another key factor was a very fast presentation. With the water temps coming up fast now start looking for the speed of trolling and casting cranks to increase.
This next picture is Josh again. After being excited about his first fish he ever caught he landed this nice walleye and brought his spirits up so much that he decided he need a break. A break deserved. Nice fish Josh.
The Port-of- Call had a tournament on Saturday with over 70 boats making the run for the biggest weight. I fished this tournament and had a blast. We boated over 25 legal walleyes in the tournament and weighed 6 fish weighing 21.4 lbs. Mark Gosse and I Finished 5th. Best presentation for us was trolling cranks for our biggest fish. If anyone ever wants to fish a good tournament this would be the one. Port of Call put out tons of great door prizes and great food afterwards. Nice show Brent! Winning weight was just over 31 lbs. Nice Bag!

I just wanted to write a note to thank Jarrad for the great day of fishing we had on the river on June, 6. It is never easy to keep two young boys patient and excited when it comes to catching walleyes. Jarrad did a great job of keeping us in the fish and keeping the boys untangled. Jarrad took us to places that I would have driven by a hundred times and not even thought about catching walleyes there. Josh caught his first walleyes ever and also caught the biggest one of the trip @ about 24″. Mitchell caught a 6# northern and enough walleyes that his hands were sore from reeling them all in. Thanks again Jarrad, you really are a great guide.
Nice fish jarrad
