Green Bay Walleye Fishing

With the weather continuing to warm up along with the water temperatures rising the Walleye fishing here on the Bay of Green Bay continues to get better and better. I have still been spending time here in Door County casting for larger post spawn walleyes along with some very aggressive northern Pike.

The walleye fishing in the lower and central portion of Green Bay is really kicking into gear with great action coming from both the west and east shorelines. With many anglers being out there it is probably a 50/50 mix with some trolling crawler harnesses and others trolling crank baits.

We spent the past couple of days fishing the lower bay along with some locations along the west shoreline. We fished some large flats that had water depths anywhere from 13 to 16 FOW trolling #7 Rapala Shad Raps in colors of purpledecent, chartreuse, and fire tiger resulting in some nice walleyes being caught just not the numbers we were looking for.

We decided to move in to some shallower water where we found lots of very active walleyes eating all of our baits. We were fishing water depths from 5 to 7 FOW trolling baits anywhere from 15 to 30 feet behind planer boards. Our best trolling speeds were from 1.3 to 1.7 MPH turning the boat left to right allowing baits to speed up and slow down. There is alot of great walleye fishing ahead with many great locations having opportunity.

  1. Paul Delaney has been on some great bites this spring. Last week him filmed a post-spawn walleye segment with In-Depth Outdoors. Shallow post-spawn walleye on bass baits? Why not! Here’s a sneak peek.
