More and more big slot fish again today. The bite on Winnie even with no winds proved to be very good again today. After trying Pokegama yesterday and finding everything but walleyes it was back to Winnie. The fish are still hanging in that 12-14 feet of water with an some coming as shallow as ten feet was what we would find today. The morning started with slot fish and some dandies at that. We started on the Northshore near Farley Creek and would find this 24 incher for Al Whitmore. Nice start to the day Al
The fish were stacked in a few areas but not sure if they wanted to eat. So we made a small move over to some rock piles just to the East of the Farley area and found more slot fish for are efforts. Here is my largest winnie walleye to date this year a nice 27 incher. She inhaled a Chartruese 1/8 oz MAXGAP jig.
After a few more slot fish, we made a move tot he West shore and Raven Point. There was a large school of walleyes working the flat North of the rocks. Most of the fish were in 12-13 feet and the key to are bite was very aggressive jigging. Jig color was not as important as the eractic jig motion. Anglers who were just swimming or slow pumping the jigs were catching far less fish then those snapping the jigs. Look for that snap jigging to really become an important part to anglers success as we hit the prime water temps of 55-65 degrees. I will be on Red LAke tomorrow, will try to post a report of those slabs when I get home, until then see ya out there!
I’m not sure you should even consider leaving Winnie the way you’ve been on the fish up there since opener! Looks like lots of happy customers of late.
Just one question for you…. still fishing shiners? I would assume so but I didn’t see a mention of bait of choice.
Good luck on Red!
Opps, I’m so fired up that I forgot about the bait…10/4 on the shiners. Winnie has been awesome and it continues to show us what a slot limit does for a lake. Should continue to be great fishing as we have yet to see that shallow water bite.
