6/02/04 – Lake Minnetonka, Mn – Bass Report

Finally!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! A nice day to chase bass on Minnetonka. With the bass opener only 5 days old, the bass fishing in my boat hadn’t been that great until today. Water temps this morning started at 59 and kept rising all day once the sun showed itself again. The highest we saw was 66. The fish made a big change as well. Yesturday you were lucky to catch 5 fish. Today it was more like 25. The size wasn’t quite up to Tonka standards for us with the average size about 2.5lbs, with the biggest about 3.5lbs.

The fish were so active that they didn’t show a real preference for what they would be willing to bite. Cranks, spinnerbaits, tubes and stickworms all caught fish. To put the most fish in the boat, crankbaits allowed us to cover the most water. I know that there were bass on beds a few weeks back before the temps fell, so there are post spawn and pre spawn fish out there right now.

The pike have been on a tear as usual for early June. Just about any outside weed edge is holding large numbers of pike. We are getting them on Bomber Fat A crankbaits, but I’m sure they would hit spinnerbaits or even suckers or shiners under a bobber. The majority of them are on the smaller side, but there are plenty of eaters and some big fish in the mix as well.

I’ll be on the lake Thur, as well as in tournaments Fri and Sat, so look for another report Sat night. Good Luck!!!!!!!

I love fishing both walleyes and bass. For walleyes I spend most of my time guiding on Mille Lacs. For bass I spend a ton of time on Minnetonka, but I cover most of the greater Minneapolis/St Paul Full Bio ›
