Mother nature has finally blessed us with some normal temps and got the surface temps up to get the ball rolling !!
I know my temp gauge is off to the + by 2-3 deg and I had 48-50 deg today for a surface temp…
With a big walleye tourney going on up on P9 I decided to stay away from the crouds and look for some eyes on my own pool… Rubble rock is a great place to find male eyes waiting to drop their magic on the awaiting eggs the females have left for them…
20-25feet of water seem to be the sweet spot for these eyes.. #9 original rapalas and J-7’s were the meal ticket…
Seems that the trolling speed didn’t matter… as long as I was moving up and down the water column.. I was up to 1.8 when I hit fish.. If I was to just pull my cranks due north at a consistent depth… I caught diddly…
Ran up to P9 today to see what was happening… We caught lots of fish in the 14″ size.. great year class coming into the program.. and some real nice 16-17″ eater males….(milting like crazy)!!!
And a tank of a male that measured 23″… what a blast !!!
Thanks Sheds for a great day on the river !!!
And to the guy in the ranger with the Yamaha V-Max from Cedar Falls…
Lets hook up next time your over… I buy the first cold one..
Nice report Dave, hopefully this upcoming weather doesn’t make the bite do a nose-dive. If so, I’m sure it’ll pickup again soon. Turkeys have me by the wattles, lots of tags to fill up and coming!

Dave, Instead of cranks, do you ever pull flies?
I have pulled flies… Hutch makes them… it does shine at times…
I’ve even pulled BFT Ring Worms with some success …
Nice looking flies btw
I was just curious. I’m always on the wolf river during the down run and the flies kick on there. I’ve used them for mid summer main channel on the miss with good results. But like I said, I never concentrated on the miss for the down run with them.
Looks like your on fish again Dave!
Nothing like a nice bunch of eaters for the frying pan. I’d take that every time!
