Smallmouth Fishing Memorial weekend was slow, but persistence paid off. The fish we located went early in the day leading us to believe it was going to be a fun morning despite the rain and wind. We started on the spots we located the previous weekend and 15 minutes into the morning we scored 2 fish a nice 16 incher and a smaller one. (See picture) These fish were taken on reef runner shallow diving little rippers. This was also the last time on the weekend other than to dry it out I used the camera.
As fast as that, the fish shutdown with the pouring rains. We fished for a little longer for smallies and then switched over to our walleye gear.
The 8 Walleyes boated on the weekend were spread out, when we located fish and caught one we were to soon pull up and move, because we discovered that we were wasting time trying to get them to bite. The fish were easily dispersed and developed lockjaw. We could move on and return later but we picked up multiple fish from very few spots.
With the clearing weather I’m hoping to get back out tomorrow for some fishing in the sun, something I have yet to do this fishing season.
