Monday brings another day filled with winds and pockets of rain, and rain and rain. In fact we could not remember the last time it rained so many times in one day. The fish seemed to be a bit more hesitant on MOnday then the two previous days for us, but we still managed to find pockets of active fish and in the pockets we would find a mixed bag of both eaters and slot fish. The day started with quit a bit of action for the eaters. We were fishing the River Channels area in Tamarack bay again. Most of the fish were hanging in the 12-15 feet of water and wanted the jigs snapped early in the day but by mid-day the bites would come more often with a drag or slight swimming action of the jig. I had the pleaseure of sharing the day with Ben Osmond from indepthangling and his customer Dale. THe first slot fish of the day came around mi-day and Bens started it off with this nice 20 1/4 incher. The pressure was no on to see if this one would be topped.
After getting are fill of eaters it was time to move as the bite slowed in the area where we had fished. We made a move to the North about 1 mile where the river channel made a large bend towards shore and where I had found a bunch of slot fish the day before. This is where Ben caught the first slot fish, and we would proceed to find a nice pocket of fish, but it only produced for 5-6 drifts and the fished scattered on us, so we kept moving and this would be the method for the remainder of Monday, find a group, catch a few and move. After a few move moves and a few more fish we headed back to the same area where Ben had caught his first slot fish and it wasn’t long and we were getting bit, all the fish on the next few passes were ranging from 17 to 23.5. Dale had the big one at 23.5. He was hoping to get something bigger but this would have to do for today. This was Dale big eye for Monday.
With the forcast showing warm temperature for the next few days, and some stablility in the weather we may have a great bite again in the coming days. Again we are finding most of are fish still out in 12-15 feet of water and until the water hit the mid fifties they are probably not going to move much. With the STRONG SE winds that we have had for the last four days, I would expect the Northshore to be active.
Great Report Sean…keep’em biting until Sept!
Winni seems to be “the” hot spot.
Brian,
Winnie is consistently good day in and out right now and the Fall fishing should be great as well.
