Sunday Morning was no doubt the best weather we have had in some time. A early morning trip to the Chippewa yieled some OK smallie action.
After witnessing the major feeding on the surface on the Red Cedar Friday, I figured surface or floating baits would be the way to go. The fast moving water pretty much took the main current area out of play. I put all my efforts in working over any slack water I could find. The first photo is a smaller fish but boy what a fight!
Fish were again surface feeding in the slack water areas. This is as close as sight fishing as I get. Throwing floating #9 raps a variety of topwater baits produced some fun action. I was working shoreline areas down to about 6ft of water. Even at the shallow depths, a few fish were taken on wally divers. The fish in the second photo hit the diver in about 3 ft of water.
I also tried a jigging and pitching plactic but had no action with that presentation. Once the water subsides the main current areas should provide a good jig bite. Right now though work slack water area with surface baits for the best action. I only saw one other boat all day so if you like solitude head for a smaller river. see you on the water, Don.
