Lower Red Cedar & Menomin

This week started off slow but good numbers and a few eaters showed up today. From Monday through thursday the eye action has been tough, to say the least. Vertical jigging, deadsticking, finessing livebait rigs all took a few fish. The numbers were not great and frequent changes in presentation was a must.

Friday I decided on a change of scenery and did a float trip on the lower Red Cedar River. For solitude a trip like that is hard to beat! Not much to report on tough, the current was ripping with the recent rain. In the slack water areas the only action was white bass feeding on the surface. Look for less water flow and warmer water to trigger the action. The first photo is a shot of the Red Cedar.

Saturday morning found me alone on the lake! I must say I can’t blame people for opting out of a fishing trip, It was down right nasty! I had enough action to keep things interesting but again frequent changes in presentation was needed. Slip-bobbering with leeches in 12 ft close to deeper water did the best. Most of the fish for the day came out of 10 to 12ft and all on leeches. Second photo-"get the net"

Sunday, I finally put together a pattern. For good numbers and a few eaters I finessed livebait in 15 ft of water. The only adjustments I made throughout the day was switching bead colors. Look for subtle changes on the bottom. I noticed the majority of bites coming off minute bumps. I’m talking about so small that I switched my garmin 240 to 4X bottom lock to identify them easier! The third picture is one of the eaters boated today. The bite is heating up so get out enjoy some good eye action. See you on the water, Don

  1. Thanks for the update on the river Don. Yep way too much rain for me, but our lawns love it. You must have been fishing around the bridge in town as you have your C-liner in the photo. You ever want to take the flat bottom down to Downsville or from Downsville to Dunnville let me know and I can help do the shuttle thing. There is some pretty good fishing and great sceanery downstream also. Thanks again for the update.

  2. Steve, Friday I did a float trip with the Jon boat. The water was moving a little fast though. We will have to do the Downsville to Dunnville float once the water subsides.
