The bay of Green Bay is slowly losing its ice pack. Most of the deeper off shore structure is off limits now that the U.S Coast Guard began ice breaking operations last week. When they do this it gives the ice a bite of "play" to ebb and flow from shore. This means sticking to inner harbors and shorelines will provide safer ice fishing opportunities.
With the warmer temperatures Walleyes have begun to push into there traditional spawning locations and are providing trophy ice fishing opportunities for all anglers!
We have been fishing 12-22FOW using Oddball jigs (knuckle balls) and jigging rapalas. Fire tiger seems to the the best color. The warmer days seem to be the best, fishing in early morning and evening (twilight).
I am hoping that the ice will be safe for another 2 weeks, but Mother Nature is in charge of that!!!
Be safe, Capt JJ
