Fox River De Pere WI

With April upon us now it still feels more like early March. With lots of snow still on the ground in many areas along with The Bay of Green Bay still being almost completely locked in ice we are surely behind schedule temperature wise and fish wise.

We set out onto the river yesterday morning leaving from the fairgrounds boat launch we headed down river hoping to find some big pre spawn walleyes staging in preparation to run up river. We found the water to be much colder than we hoped for along with the water being dirty leaving poor visibility.

We fished many different areas ranging in depths from 3 feet to 20 feet. We were fishing both B-fishin Blade Baits along with soft plastic Moxies along with Pulse R’s in colors of white and chartreuse. Finding the fishing to be very slow we did manage to catch around a dozen Walleyes all Males under 3 pounds.

We caught some fish verticle jigging the river channel in 14 to 17 FOW and also caught some fish casting jigs in to shallow water retreiving them back slowly. Some fish hit the baits hard while other fish bit more softly. Even though we had some fish hit hard they were not taking the whole bait they would just hit the back of the bait resulting in the plastic being pulled back off the jig. Warm steady weather should really improve the fishing in the upcoming week or so.

  1. Thanks, I’ve been keeping my eye on things there for the 4 hour drive. 3 days in the 50’s is sure to help things out.

  2. Sure is a strange year Paul. We caught several females up river three weeks ago and some were starting to loose their eggs… I think we boated 73 back on the 16th of March…90% vertical jigging while drifting downriver with
BFT plastics. The water temps were about 36 degrees.
I am switching over to the Menominee next week (if they get the ramps in) and hope to post a report.

    Thanks for the update…
