Multi-species and multi-presentations is the best way to think for hitting Menomin this weekend. The walleye action is still very spotty, timing is very important. If your in the right spot at the right time, a few eaters can be taken. Livebait rigging has taken the most fish for me. Running a six to eight foot snell behind a Lindy 1/4 ounce NoSnagg sinker. Be ready to make subtle presentation changes for more bites. I am using a size 10 aberdeen style hook, changing up from a plain hook to using various color beads.
Running a slipbobber rig is also producing. If one presentaton slows, be preparred to switch up- it triggers bites!
The jig bite is slower but the quality is better. Depending on wind condition anywhere from 1/8 to 1/2 ounce are producing. Fish are being taken at various depths, cover between 6 and 17 ft. The best colors for me have been orange or parrot. the short shank jigs such as Overbites have been working the best. Look for fish to be scattered on the smaller flats close to current areas.
Pike, bass, and a few eyes have been showing up on the main basin. Trolling a variety of # 5 shallow running cranks on 3 ways has been a constant producer. I am seeing some nicer pike taken by this method.
This would be a good weekend to get some kids out for some fast gill action. Fish worms or a piece of crawler under a bobber. Look for shoreline and shallow weeds. The gills are coming from 1 to 2 ft of water. Shallow structure and weedlines are also holding bass. Pitching plastic such as Ringworms has been working well. I will be At Wissota Marina for the on the water boat show this weekend. If you are not fishing and want to try out a Crestliner, stop by. See you on the water, Don
Don,
great report. How are the water conditions after the weekend rains?
On the rise and little dirty. When the water muddies up pitch ringworms in slackwater or current breaks. I made this adjustment last year and the eyes just smack the plactic when thier visibility is limited.
