Devils Lake Fishing Report – May 17, 2004

The storm and intense low pressure system of last week dropped the water temperature over 5 degrees. That put the walleyes and pike out deeper and into a negative mood. High winds forced anglers off the water for three days.

Casting crankbaits shallow completely shutdown for several days through the weekend. By Sunday the water temperature raised to 49 down from the 51 we saw last weekend. The weather is going to be more stable this week so I am expecting the normal shallow casting #4 and 5 Shad Rap bite to go again. The broken back #4’s can be good.

RCL anglers should see more normal patterns when they are in town next week. But the lake is two to three weeks behind nornmal and should progress into more seasonal patterns quickly if it should ever warm up. Remember the get together at my place on Saturday. Let me know if you plan to attend. Leave me a note in the Devils lake section. I’ll have some more info there or I/you can PM you/I.
