Devils Lake Fishing Report – May 10, 2004

I finally have my ride..A Warrior V193 with a 225 Yamaha 4 stroke so I have an actual report to pass your way. My arm is just about falling from tossing an assortment of #5 Shad Raps for three days into the shoreline. I had my digital camera with but forgot to get pictures of myself. This is my fishing partner Maggie.

Wind played a big factor in our locating walleyes. We had our best luck in 30 MPH winds catching our largest walleye of the day… a 27.5 incher casting well ahead of the boat and poulling the cranks somewhat parallell to the shore. We thought we might haver been spooking them we pitched to close to the boat. This is Lenard from Carrington holding our big one for the day.

Warmer water also played a role. We only really only got into them after the sun warmed the water along the shoreline. It maybe was only a degree or two warmer but that seemed to trigger them in mid-afternoon. All-in-all Sunday in 30 MPH winds was our best day. We had a 27.5, 2-25, 2-24, 2-23,4-22 and 4-21. Not a bad day.

  1. Kevin,
Great report, I can’t wait to get there in a week or so. Looks like you found some good fish. I too run a Warrior, so far since I’ve had it(4 years), it has been worry free . Hope the fishing gets better in the weeks to come. Will see ya out there

  2. Way to go Kevin! Nice looking eyes! Must of been a blast pitchin cranks to those slabs! Wish I could of been there. Our season opens Sat and I have a full week of trips to work. Hopefully will have some good pics like yours to post.

  3. Kevin, nice report. We had similar luck this past weekend. It took us until Saturday noon to figure out a pattern that worked but once we did the action was non-stop. I was very impressed with the quality of fish out there.

Attached are a couple photos from the weekend.

  4. Nice fish Scott. There should be more of them in a few weeks when they come down the Mauvais and Channel A into the lake.

I edited the number we caught after a talk with Lenard. I forgot we had 15 that day. At least double that in Northerns.
