Spirit Lake,friends and fun,May 8 & 9,2004

What a fun week-end to be on the water. The GNWC was having a tourney on West and East Okoboji on May 9th and I thought this would give me a chance to fish and see old friends.Fishing with me was my son Cole.We started on West but the water is still very clear so we went to East to find some active fish.Although the morning was a little slow we caught alot of little eyes in the afternoon. Here is Cole with a small walleye from East.

Cole also managed to snag 3 Berkley artificial weeds while on East. This is a first for us,I knew they were in lakes but had never seen one. Here is Cole with his catch.

Saturday night we decided to fish Spirit Lake for a few hours around sundown. We slip-bobber fished some shallow rocks and the action was very fast.Cole and I could barely keep 2 poles in the water. Here is me with a nice 16" walleye.

Saturday night I stayed at my good friend Matt Peterson’s cabin on the North end of Spirit.Matt’s dock is a local late night slip-bobber hot spot with thousands of fish caught off of it.Matt and I sat on the dock and watched his boy Lane and Cole catch many walleyes. What a blast!!! Matt had his hands full just trying to keep up with the boys. And what fun watching these young men and their techniques. From reeling up slack to setting the hook-a slip-bobber clinic was put on for us "old farts"

With a few hours of sleep Cole and I were back on the water early. And the walleye were going crazy. We drifted live bait from 14-16′ of water and it was great action. We did not get any legal eyes but Cole again caught alot of fish.We finally quit fishing when we ran out of live bait.We were catching them on 3" Power minnows also but both us were ready to call it a day around noon. Here is Cole with a 16" smallie that he caught,he always gets a few of these nice fish when were on the water.

A big thanks to Matt for letting me stay at the cabin!!!
