Sumo Bronzies In Door County

With out sounding like a broken record I would like to give an updated fishing report for late Fall Smallmouth Bass here in Door County. With November now well under way the Smallies are getting just incredibly fat and as hard as rocks. The fish have been feeding heavily now for over a month now and it is really evident with some fish looking like they have tennis balls in their stomachs.

Every day is a little different out there some days they are really active banging the baits really hard and picking them up off the bottom and other days you have to work a little harder at them spending time moving around finding fish that are a little more active. We have been throwing B-fishin Tackle Blade Baits along with Rapala Rippin Raps at the fish.

Yesterday we experienced very active fish and we found that the longer we could let the baits sit on the bottom the more bites we would get. We would also get fish by rippin the baits up off the bottom but we caught many fish by letting them pick the bait up off the bottom. Some fish that we caught actually had the entire bait inside their mouth.

It has really been another fantastic Fall fishing for Smallmouth Bass again but it is time for me to switch gears now and start fishing trophy Walleyes. I will be fishing Walleyes now for the next few weeks or until the boat ramps freeze up. On the Bay of Green Bay we troll various different crank baits along with minnow baits on lead core lines But I am excited about trying some casting with some mew baits for these fish. We still have plenty of time to get out and enjoy some open water fall fishing but IT is coming.

  1. Paul is sitting on top of some of the best smallmouth fishing in the country. On a recent shoot with him we dropped down a MarCum and our eyes popped and our jaws dropped at the numbers of big bass working a rock to sand transition in 28′ of water! Here’s that video…

PS – we saved all the best video, including footage of smallies smacking blades, for the show that will air next spring.

Here’s the HD link for those that have the bandwidth to enjoy the added clarity and detail. http://youtu.be/PJ0puqO_7i4?hd=1
