A beautiful afternoon with friends Josh & Jim on pool 4 ! It was a great afternoon to play hooky from work for a couple hours and fun fish with the buddies! Yes, the ramps are open at Everts and it was a nice start to the day on the water with a friendly welcome from Kari, to get our day started.
Saugeramma was the last time on the river for me so we quickly duplicated what worked last time for us.Sure enough, the location & presentation was still producing. Pitching blades and the subtle strikes on the fall were almost identical to 2 weeks ago.I also had the opportunity to field test the new Croix Extremes. Without giving a sales pitch, Croix continues to raise the bar on a already great rod.
Josh & I quickly tried plastics & hair while Jim stuck with blades. Josh put a clinic on with kelly green & ugly bug bucktail while plastics just fell short for me.As water temps fall no doubt that they will dominate soon!
I also suspect that Miller rigs should be a very productive mid-day presentation that is a easy fun and time tested pool 4 winner. I was surprised to see less than 15 boats were out and everyone appeared to be boating at least some fish. Now is the perfect time to learn how to pitch blades if you have a desire to learn and or struggled with it in the past. Regardless of how you fish, chances are you will have a awesome river day and the best to come is right around the corner!
Have fun fishing everyone!
Thanks for a great “buddy” day on the water Jim & Josh!
Dean, nice to see your smiling face again ! Glad to here you guy’s whacked them. We will be up in a few weeks, I hope the plastic will be going by then. Nice fish!
Ahh the coffee cup trick…..glad to see you did not forget how !!!!!!!!!! It is a trick I have never forgotten.
Treat on your desk….
Mica, I am sure the big fish will be ready to go for you on plastics by then, especially the Prime time bite times. But pack some bucktails just in case. Hope to bump into you !
Thanks for the report Dean
Very nice.
It’s a good thing I have a Jon boat and not some fancy Skeeter!
Fishing with friends on a beautiful afternoon and giving each other a hard is time is good medicine!
Nice report Dean! North Dakota northerns have been smacking the snot out of blades for me even if the walleyes won’t. I just pickled 4 quarts of the little buggers.
Joel
nice fish and thanks for the timely report, dean.
will they be biting when we come up to fish p4 mon, tues and wed?
Not sure if the fish will bite next week, but the ramps will be open!
Sure…I never get invited along fishing with you anymore Dean!
We had some good times! You in that apron and all!
Nice work Dean – looks like you guys had a blast. Sometimes you just need to go-fishin’, and you guys seemed to have a great time scratching the itch!
Joel
Yes, it was “sweet soul music” listening to Dean & Josh go at it!! It was duelling St. Croix’s all afternoon. Getting some blade lessons from the Master and watching them pitch hair was worth more than I could ever pay. The smell of the river & the spilled coffee in Josh’s boat was an olfactory delight!! I’m a lucky guy……………
That would have been show not to be missed.
I hope I bump into you the water Larry! No worries, my crystal ball has you booked for those days and the best bite possible is reserved for your boat! Have fun!
Dean, nice to see you out fishing and nice report seems like the chew is on and should only get better, nice fish guys!
Great job Dean & Crew !!!! We hope to make it up 1 more time this month !!!! I HOPE
