Rock And Roll Door County Smallmouth Bass

As I write this fishing report we are experiencing wind speeds here in Door County in excess of 40 MPH with wind gusts at times exceeding 50 MPH. Yesterday James,Ben And myself set out to film a Smallmouth Bass show. With the forecast predicting big winds we were being hopeful that we would be able to get the whole day on the water.

We were targeting water depths of 20 to 30 FOW And we were casting to our fish Using 1/2 oz B-Fishin Tackle Blade Baits.I like to cast these baits using a no stretch line with a flourocarbon leader with a snap attached to the blade bait.Prior to this recent cold front that has passed through our area our water temps have risen a couple of degrees which kind of made the fish a little lazy and had slowed the bite down a bit.

I have been using blade baits for the past couple of weeks having good success on them but we also have been running live bait rigs with succer minnows. Over the past week with the fishing being a little slow you really had to have a feel for the light bites on the live bait rigs to maximize your hook ups.

Yesterday we were experiencing wind speeds of 20 to 25 MPH out of the north so we were really rockin and rollin out there but we were still able to safely fish. I have been getting a lot of fish to pick the blade baits up off the bottom but with the windy conditions we were facing yesterday we had to work them more aggressively to keep up with the baits. Another great adventure on the Bay with great company. With the ice fishing season soon approaching there is still plenty of time to get out and enjoy some fantastic late Fall fishing.

  1. I fished with Paul Delanay out in Door Co. on Monday before hurricane Sandy rolled into town and put a kibosh on plans for a second day on the water. The bite casting blades was big fun and something I look forward to doing again in the future.

I know many guys will fish big minnows out there this time of year and I’ve done that in the past. Casting the blades is WAY more fun and actually out-fished the minnows that we fished side-by-side with the blades for a portion of the day.

Thanks Paul. Let me know when the water clears back up following the big blow.

  2. Great late season smallies!

You may want to consult a doctor though because either your head is shrinking or your hands are growing at an alarming rate.

  3. Beautiful Fish! Gotta love a nice smallie double pic.

I always feel extra cool when I’m catching any kind of fish on artificials while the majority of other anglers are using live bait. Way to go guys!
