Lake Puckaway Wi. crappies and gills report.

Well fall is here and some frosty nights are coming this weekend. The bow season has started allready, but also has some of the best crappie and bluegill fishing has started also. The water temps are cooling down and some of the canals on the lake will be a little warmer and it seems to draw the panfish in the canals at the fall time. Their stomachs are packed with food and now is the time to fish for panfish. There is just too many things too to do in the great fall season.

We have been fishing in one of the canals that are off the main lake. Fishing by peirs and boat docks are the key on the sunny days and on the cloudy days the fish will be spread out all over the canal. I have my boat on the lift and its fun to watch the fish come out of the structure and hit your jig. Just like looking down the whole ice fishing.

The baits we are using are tear drop ice jigs tipped with wax worms or small bits of night crawlers. The orange is always the stand by color but the other colors have been working as well. The fish have been so aggresive some days you can get them to bite on just the plain jig even.

Fishing on the peir is like ice fishing this time of the year. You sit on a pail and verticl jig with your ice fishing poles right next to the peir. Its practice for the hard water season which is not far away.

  1. Yea guys my youngest boy is working in the area this week and might just stay over a few nights for a fish fry. Might even get him to do some casting at night for some eyes on Big Green.
