Mississippi River Pool 9 Handlining 4/30/04

Today I had the pleasure of fishing with Ron Berg from Barnaveld Wi. Ron has wanted to head out on the river and get in touch with some handlining. Well today was his day After a short introduction to this technique Ron was feeling right at home with the cable in hand…With in minutes he had his first walleye in the boat.

The weights we had to use today were 2 pounders…The flow is still up pretty high but the fish are still very aggressive…Even though the front moved right in on us the method we had going worked flawlessly…With leads at 5/15 and 10/20 we had these males dialed right in…

We could tell getting a limit of nice eaters was going to be no problem at all…We worked a lot of areas today…kinda run and gun approach…we’d hit a few here and then hit a few there,,,,we could tell right off within the first 15 minutes if the spot we were on was going to produce small saugers or nice male walleyes up to 23 inches..

Well all good things must come to an end and today was no different…I really enjoyed your company today Ron and I’m sure we can do it again sometime…

Till next time, see ya on the water…

Thinking that after Monday I should be on the loose again to fish. Company gone, no more DR visits and house hunting and getting bids in should be pretty well to an end. FREE at last FREE at last.
Maybe you and I can hook up again before long Dave. It’s always a pleasure to fish with you. And did enjoy the sample of handlining with you last fall.
    Good fishing to all.
