It has been awesome living up here on the lake and chasing muskies pretty much every day. The fish have been on and off but keep casting and they will slip up eventually.
My room mate bundy topped the scales so far with a 55.25 x 24 inch monster. A few more 50 inch fish have been boated. The windows seem to be sun and moon phases like most muskie lakes, but on lake vermilion this is even more important with the pressure and highly intelligent fish.
Last night I missed 4 fish on sunset so i decided to go back around the spot and landed 3 different fish in about 30 minutes. The lesson i learned is to keep casting the best spots and wait for the fish to slip up and eat!
When the fish are aggressive the only baits i have really been throwing is bucktails and topwaters. I can honestly say those lures have accounted for 99% of my fish. In july the fish were super aggressive but they seemed to smarten up and move on to other spots. Now in August it seems that less numbers of fish are on spots but the bigger fish are roaming the spots i’m parked on. If anybody is interested in coming up to vermilion and catching giant muskies let me know. Keep in touch Ido family and as always keep casting!
Great Report
Hey AJ, missed your text last night… 3 fish on 5 casts… You’re insane dude! I gotta get up and do some fishing with you. People on this sight are insane if they don’t take you up on chasing some mid fifties! Take Care, Good luck up there.
I agree with that Ryan! Fished with him up there once this year and we were always on fish! Can’t wait to get up in early November for the really big girls!!
Nice work AJ! Can’t wait to get up this fall to chase some fatties with ya. We need to get a crew together and get to the pond this fall to break ice with pounders, sounds like we got a few die hards willing so far.
Give me a date I’ll make it work!
Hey, I’m wondering if there was anything real specific about the muskies you caught with type of blades color? Thanks a bunch and VERY nice fish!!!
To answer your question about blade colors i would say color doesn’t matter as much as size and vibration. Every cowgirl swims in the water a bit different and i have found 2 or3 that ride higher when i fish them slowly at night. This has been the key along with confidence in the lure you have selected.
On a side note i have noticed night fishing a full moon i like white and on a new moon i choose black to show the shaddow of the lure….. just an idea that i’m playing around with.
Thanks a bunch for the good words of encouragement everybody! I have enjoyed all the company surrounding me on my adventures!
There will be plenty of big fish chasing this fall so lets all put our minds together and chase that state record! Keep in touch and as always good fishing.
All I can say is…..keep it coming! Great stuff A.J., as it’s always good to see the guys that are out in front of the bite, instead of chasing it. Congrats on the great fishing, and thanks for sharing your knowledge.
