Target Offshore Structure For Door County Walleye

Now that the dog days of August are among us, our weather patterns are more reflective of fall weather. With very warm temperature in the months of June and July, August has begun with much cooler weather. Generally in the month of August, we see great fishing opportunities for numbers of large Walleyes in the Door County area.

We have been seeing fish showing up since around late July with some real super days with good numbers of fish being taken on both spinners and crawlers, along with trolling various different crankbaits. Last weekend, a major front come through with very strong winds out of the North that really stirred every thing up and dropped water temps.

Having a good day Sunday right after the winds layed down, we have been seeing the fishing getting tougher each and every day after. I have been trolling various different crankbaits, including Rapala Husky Jerks and Rapala Tail Dancers. I have been targeting areas around offshore structure and suspended fish over deeper water.

With only two to five bites per trip, we are really having to cover a lot of water to find active fish. With not having a lot of bites the past couple of days, the fish we are catching have been pretty nice, with most in the 28- to 31-inch range, with a few slightly smaller fish mixed in also.

Some good steady warmer weather should get things back on track.
