Lake Mendota, Wi. perch fishing july 19th 2012

We set out early at 4 am. for a perch fishing trip to Lake Mendota, which is in the capital city of Madison, Wi. It a great lake to fish and you have a great veiw of the capital it self while fish. I was fishing with 2 of my great fishing partners and neighbors as well Roger and Bob.

We did not get a lot of pics. this trip because the fish were just biting too fast for more pics. We set up in about 15 feet of water and were marking clouds of fish and bait fish in a few areas. We put down the anchor and set out our perch rigs. Our lines were set up with different size weights with either plain hooks or 1/32nd jigs of various colors. The size sinkers depended how linber your rod was. For the baits were were using wax worms or peice of night crawler was the key for the day. Setting your bait about a foot off the bottom seemed be about the best.

As soon as we got the baits down we started getting whitebass, smallies and sheephead. We saw schools of minnows just under the surface and just then Bob put the first perch of the day in the boat and we were off to some fast action for the day. We all 3 started pulling perch in right after another for some long periods and then the whitebass and smallies would show up again and the perch would just shut off. When we would stop getting the smallies the minnows would come by again and the perch would show up on the HDS 7 and back to fast action on the perch.

Overall a great day fishing with Roger and Bob and always some great fishing stories and some food as well. We got some nice meals for all of us great company for the day.
