The river has finally started to receed and the fishing has been getting better each day. For the first time in several weeks we have been hearing of limits of Walleyes coming from Lake Pepin. Most of the fisherman are either dragging Leeches and Crawlers or Trolling. Shad Raps, Lindy river Rockers and Storm Rattlin Thin Fins are the baits of choice. Colors, Fire Tiger, White, Chartreuse seem to be the best.
Flathead and Channel Cats are being caught quite regularly with larger fish showing up each week as we approach the spawn. The next couple of weeks are your best chance to land a true fish of a lifetime here on the river. There will be several Flatheads over 40#’s caught in the next couple of weeks.
Bass – Both Smallmouth and largemouth Bass fishing is going very well. Most of the fish are being caught on topwaters like Frogs and Poppers.
Panfish – The Crappies and Bluegills are all done spawning now and are very hungry. Reports of Large Crappies are coming from Lake Pepin. Areas like Maiden Rock seem to have the best bite.
Thanks for your time, Chris Winchester
