Mississippi River Pool 7 Largemouth Bass

What a great evening it was to be out on the water. What made it even better, was to be out with my Dad.

We started the evening off on a rock flat adjacent to some deeper water with a little current and some wood. Right off the bat it appeared the fish were in feeding mode. My Dad stuck this nice LM Bass on a Berkely Power Worm texas rigged with a 3/16oz weight.

A few casts later I boated this dandy LM Bass on a lipless crank. We estimated the weight of this girl to be well over 3lbs. She was quite fat and pulled like a horse. Every fish we caught fought hard and some of the Bass we caught, fought so hard we were sure they were Northern Pike or we had snagged a carp.

A little change of scenery and tactics lead to this nice sized Bass. If you look very closely, you’ll see this fish was caught on a Yamamoto Senko. I was dead sticking the Senko off a rock pile when she hit. I would like to say for the record, I attribute this fish to the sensitivity of my St Croix Avid Series spining rod. It’s rigged with Fireline and that combo gave me the sensitivity to feel this fish lightly tap my line. This setup is more than capable to handle fish like this one.

You really do owe it to yourself to try St. Croix rods. Or if anything, hop in the boat with me and I’ll let you try mine. I love them and wouldn’t trade them for anything.

Pop quiz! Betcha can’t tell what I caught this beauty on.

This fish was so far off the bank when she hit I was absolutely sure she was a Northern. I have to admit, she fought like one. All night long, I was in awe of the voracious fights these fish put up.

It sure was a treat to be out and what made it even better was being in the boat with my Dad. Thanks Dad! I look forward to seeing all of you on the water!
