Green Bay Walleye Action

This is a Walleye fishing report for June 6th,7th and 9th. With water temps warming up fish are beginning to move around and pull away from shoreline areas. With some fish relating to shorelines through out the entire season lots of fish begin moving to open water or relating to off shore structure.

We have for the most part been trolling crawler harnesses and crank baits for our fish. I have been using #5 Colorado blades in various different colors from Jolly Roger Tackle Company along with Rapala Shad Raps and Minnow Raps. Most of the water that I have been targeting this past week has been from 9 to 16 feet of water.

With a large number of smaller fish in the system we are having to work through some smaller fish to get our larger fish. On Wednesday morning we had a two man limit of fish between 16 and 20 inches. On an afternoon trip that same day we were just catching and releasing fish with a number of different sized fish along with a big fish that was at least 30 inches come off right at the back of the boat.

Thursday’s trip brought us flat calm water that always makes things a little tougher. After a slow start we began to experiment with different lead lengths and blade colors eventually dialing in on a pattern that was giving us pretty concistant bites. Saturday morning brought us very strong winds out of the south and after making two trolling passes catching a number of nice fish on a shallow wind blown area I decided to start casting crank baits in the shallow water and we began catching a number of really nice sized fish from 15 to 25 inches most fish from 22 to 24 inches along with a bonus Pike and a White bass.

  1. Nice report Paul, good job switching lead lengths and blade styles to get on fish. Also nice touch switching to pitching cranks to get on aggressive fish. Continued luck. – Quintin
