Another Mille Lacs Walleye Report!

Well there’s not much I can say many others haven’t already. The bite on MilleLacs is outstanding right now. Since opener it’s been a slug fest. The average angler fishing Millelacs for the first time can very possibly get into double digits of fish over 20” right now. There are very few lakes in the country where fish of this size and quantity are possible.

You can literally go to MilleLacs planning to use any one of your favorite techniques and have a great day. I’ve been using bobbers, Lindy rigs and spinners. I’ve fished about every side of the lake and there are hungry fish to be found on almost every piece of structure. Simply just mark em and fish em.

In years past there has been a lot of talk about “too much bait” causing a slower than normal bite. Well that’s not the case this year. The fish have eaten the bait down to a level where they’re very aggressive. Most of the fish look very healthy but I hope we get a good hatch of perch soon so we don’t have a replay of 2001 where the fish almost starved.

With a hot bite there will most likely be increased traffic so remember to be courteous to others. Everyone is there for one reason and that’s to have fun. Also taking pics of these big fish are a blast, but please treat these fish gently! They’re very fragile if you take care of every fish you catch they’ll be here for you and your family to catch next year! A good rule of thumb is, don’t keep them out of the water longer than you can hold your breath. Load up the kids and go catch some fish!

I bought my first boat when I was 13 and I've spent about every day since on the water or ice. I do most of my guiding on MilleLacs and in the Alexandria Lakes area.
