Took my daughter to a farm pond and the fishing was fantastic. Fishing for crappies I tie two 1/16 oz jigs about 12" apart and swim them with a slow steady retrieve. We caught crappies, bass, and bluegills, sometimes two at a time. The picture to the right is my 7 year old daughter Samanatha with a couple of nice 12"ers. She had a great time and was amazed at the hugh bull frogs in the pond. I think there may be a frog legs dinner on the menu in the future. Nothing gives me greater pleasure than to watch my children’s reaction to catching fish. Sam was laughing and giggling each time she would catch a fish. When I tucked her into bed that night, she said "Daddy, fishing with you is so much fun, when can we go again?" Funny how little things can make your life so much better.
Nice report Steve, getem started young and they will be hooked for life
My daughter Emily is 8 and she loves to go fishing with Dad every chance she gets
Great report, you don’t know how much I envy you.
Great to see a little girl fishing, Steve!
My daughter is almost 4 so I’m looking forward to some of the same experiences in the near future. Great picture also!
Great job Steve, my 6 year old daughter has been asking to go everyday, she even puts her own minnows on. Maybe we will go get into the white bass on the Wisconsin river
My daughter is almost 2 and I can’t wait to get her out. I should have her ready for tourneys in a few years.
Nice report. I love living in Minnesota but I sure do miss fishing all of those farm ponds I did while growing up in Iowa. Can’t beat farm ponds for the numbers of fish you can catch & the variety. I have a float tube now that would work very well on small farm ponds.

Another future angler- my just turned 4 year old, hes been fishing since 2, casting himself for a year. wacky rigging a 4-5″ senko with a circle hook is a great way to let them cast, not have to deal with bait, and they hook everything that bites them with that circle. Only problem is in playing the larger fish- the 4 lb line that lets them cast a mile is not good if the fish heads toward wood.
Here is my guy with a bass from Moffit. He was 3, going on 4. Relatively short attention span, but thats OK. He chases bugs and finds sticks when the action isnt fast…
