Lake Puckaway walleye report 4-23-12

Was out chasing some walleyes on Lake puckaway and the Fox river which flows into the lake. We were fishing the no-wake area of the river in water from 9 to 4 feet of water. We got some rain last week so the flow and water level is up about a foot or better.

The presentations we are using are small 1/32nd to 1/16th once jigs and the old stand by the split shot rigs with colored hooks and beads on the set-ups. For colors orange and green were good both days for the jigs and red hooks for the split shot rigs. We even had some luck on the flicker shads as well when trolled back up current when we went back up tp do another drift down the river.

Keeping the boat on the drop offs along the rivers edge was the key to keep getting the fish to bite. The current was making the fish hug to the ledges of the river. One of the days we had a east wind , so we had to use the bow mount trolling motor to pull us down the river and this seemed to get the fish more aggresive on the hits for the day. Otherwise we just drift down river and the boat is side ways in the current.

Over all we had about 33 walleyes each day for the 2 days out and some northerns, smallies, whitebass and even some catfish for the day. Great time out fishing with the water temps coming back up.
