I write to you all as i just finished cleaning slime and scum from my boat. Not that i am complaining at all. I have been fortunate enough to spend the past week with some great friends and even some new fishing partners down on the Mississippi River. It has been a blast even tho the fishing has been run and gun for my boat. The numbers for us have not been great but some nicer fish have came to the boat.
The first trip of the week i spent ALL day out with Dom from the fishing site here. We spent all day pulling crank baits in 8-15ft. after producing nothing on a short lived pitching effort. We ran around alot and only netted 1fish but it was a good one. My personal best 28.25inch walleye fell to a flicker shad on a rocky shoreline. Thanks for taking me out fishing in your boat Dom. The day was so enjoyable even tho the bite was slow.
The next trip i spent some time in the backwaters of pool4 chasing pike and whatever else would tug on the line! The water showed to be 61degrees in some shallow spots we accessed and the fish were on the chew. I slowly finessed a glide bait all day long and Corey from here on the site fished a K-grub on a texas rig. I’m pretty sure he caught more fish than I did but my glider produced the best Pike of the day measuring in at 35inches and still full of eggs. About 20fish ended up hitting the net on that trip and it was a blast fishing with a NEW FRIEND and fishing partner! We fished backwater sand/weed areas that were between 1.5-12 feet deep. The water is so low that it was hard navigating. Lucky I was with a pro
The last trip was spent with a long time friend and new fishing partner Anthony. We showed up with some hot tips from fellow ido members and should have stuck to our guns! Time was spent searching for walleyes on this trip north of lake pepin. The tactic that caught fish was pitching and dragging 1/4oz or smaller jigs tipped with B fish N paddletails. Sand was the key and also staying out of the wind! Thanks for joining Anthony and showing me how to fish buddy… Good fishing to everybody and stay safe on the water!
Gotta love the search for big fish… I think my eye from mille lacs was bigger nice report. Hopefully I can add to it after this weekend!! I will be down on pool 5 for an in club fishing tourney chasin bass..
Shoot me a call Matt and maybe exchange some info. Good luck fishing either way and hope for good weather! keep in touch- A.J.
