Ok.. Spring has been here for a while now…. And the walleyes know it… I look forward to a couple times a year when the walleyes are so predictable that even a 50 year old with a pair of new hips can catch them
Normaly this time of year the river his high in her banks and the flow is up around 95 to 100kfps and you need a 2 pound weight to get a # 9 floating rapala to the bottom in 20 feet of water.
but…………..
The river is nothing like the normal spring just like our winter… Picking these fish up can be as easy as a 3-way rig, lead core and hand lining with cranks…
Targeting fish at several depths from 10 to 25 feet deep depending on the time of day in one key you need to figure out to pull some monster eyes like this 24 1/2″ male…
These fish come to the boat like a bas out of water… Get them on the bottom of the boat and they will bounce, kick, jump and even bite if your your not careful
It is not uncommon to even get a double when running two cranks on a hand line set up…that’s a handful when your with a partner to help you land them and even tougher when your by yourself
It has been fun out there with the nice weather.. I know the early mornings have been a bit chilly, like Sunday with all the fog.. I found the perfect apparel for for this type of weather.. the Frabill Gray Suit..fleece lined, wind proof, rain proof, the seams are 100% sealed so no wet on the inside, just on the outside..
And when it turns to the upper 60’s to low 70’s like we been having… off they come and shorts and a t-shirt for that kind of weather !!!
So if your out on 9 and see me out there say hello and that you saw this report on IDO
Congrats man!
Nice ride dude!!! Too long no talk to………..
Good to see you out there knocking the fish around, buddy!
Nice job on the walleyes Dave!
I think that’s the first time I’ve seen your ride as well.
Sweet rig man!
Wish I was out there with you, looks like fun! Nothing better than a local bite that takes off a bit early for max enjoyment.

Nice report Dave. Wish I didn’t have to be in Chicago so I could come help you with those doubles.
Nice fish and some good information there Dave
Even a blind crippled squirrel… This year up to Red Wing we actually had two boats in our crew where I never got to meet or say hello in person to the occupants. I thought your home pool was 10?
Great report, I have handlined only once before and it was fun to feel those fish hammer those cranks. Wish I was closer Dave.
Nice fish
Sounds like fun. I hope you are keeping a few for the fish fry.
Very nice job on the fish.
One of my best baits this year has been the Rapala J-7….
Here are a couple of the colors I have been using…
Blue and silver, Hot Steele , Hot Olive are a few more…
Nice fish and report Dave.
Here are a couple from yesterday?
The bites been really slow today. But it sure is beautiful out here
Nice job Dave. Drew
Nice fish
Nice job Dave!
