BOTH YESTERDAY AND THE DAY BEFORE HAD MUCH HARDER BITES IN THE MORNING WITH THE ARTIC COLD FRONTS DROPPING FARTHER AND FARTHER IN, BUT NUMBERS OF 10-16 INCH MALES WERE STILL CATCHABLE DEEPER… NOT MUCH IN SPAWNING Areas til afternoon.
Had a Brush with fate late yesteday. Fish right behind the boat in 2 feet of water hit a lure and ran up to the top.. jerked it’s head the opposite direction and was gone. Both guide customers saw it’s whole lenghth and girth and are pretty sure a $2500. or $1000. fish got away.(Nekoosa WALLEYE DAYS). THE GUYS BOTH SPEND A LOT OF THE TIME ON THE DEPERE RUN AND FISH AND LIVE IN GREEN BAY AND ALL THEY COULD SAY WAS IT WAS A HUGE FISH. DRAG WAS A LITTLE LOOSE AND ZIPPED AND I GUESS AS THE CUSTOMER SAID THE HOOK NEVER SET WELL… Caps were unintentional but I guess appropriate. It pays to fish spots that usually don’t contain the bigger fish till later in year, right now. This fish was on our last spot(kind of a last resort for large fish), and certainly not what I would call a spring time location. Oh well like I always say…"It’s all about time on the water" and I wouldn’t have even fish the last spot if I hadn’t felt in previous days that a different bottom and adjustment had been made by the fish due to the Artic cold front. Frankly if it hadn’t been my third day out of four on that water I would have not even tried the spot. There are still many females firm and with the big warm up sometime in the next week and a half there is going to be one HUUUUGGGEEE SPAWN. If I had to guess I would say early next week. Add the closeness to the new moon and this might be a week to remember. After Spring Valley WHAT A RELIEF!!! Just one other quick thing here… we can see the end of our 3ft bright yellow ruler when we put it completely under water. It is about 4 inches wide, but we still can see 3 feet down at least.
Lawrence, are you fishing the RCL tourny on Petenwell.
