Lake Koshkonong and Rock River WI Walleye Report

After a couple weeks of slow fishing walleyes are starting to get active again. Water levels are still high which is good. Current is fast yet and water still muddy but not as bad as a couple weeks back. Check out my report by clicking on VIEW below and see how me and a buddy caught nice male walleyes like these.

The morning started off slow as Chris and I were fishing some current breaks I have had good luck at before. We were using a vertical jig technique with 3/8 oz Zone-R nuckle ball jigs tipped with a large fathead minnow. The bottom was a rocking bottom in about 5 to 7 fow. We didn’t have much luck so I told Chris I know of a spot with a good gravel bottom in 5 to 8 fow that has holded fish before this time of year. It wasn’t long after we move to the new spot we were bringing nice fish like the ones Chris has in this picture on the left.

The bite was off and on the whole day but we stuck it out on this spot with the gravel bottom because I was marking lots of fish and we just had to wait until they were bitting again. We had to change jig colors every hour trying to figure out what they want next. There favorite colors for the day was pink/white, orange/chart, glow/green and the new metallic purple all jigs made by the Fin-Tech Tackle Company. Glow/green Zone-R caught this nice walleye on the right.

The trolling bite is starting to pick up also on Lake Koshkonong close to the rock piles and in front of the mouth of the rivers. Trolling cranks and crawler harness are working good now. So if your in the area give the Rock River or Lake Koshkonong a try and take home some nice eater walleyes like this one on the left that Chris caught, we did Easter weekend and they tasted mighty fine. Thanks for a great day on the water Chris and thanks for lunch and we will have to do it again sometime. Remember fishing should be fun or your doing something wrong. Be safe and take a kid fishing there are future.

  2. Hey Goby I was the guy in the 16″ Lakeland! Didn’t realize you were on here too! I had the other yellow lab that went “duck chasing” Her name is Sadie which I’m sure you heard me yell a few times that day! I did pretty well that day. Caught a 16″ and 2-20″. Was a fun day. Hope to see you again soon! Good luck!

  4. Just a little update from todays fishing outing. It was a very nice day out actually the best this spring, I have a sun burn so what does that tell you. Temps in the high 70’s and maybe hit 80 it was all most to warm at times. And wouldn’t you know I didn’t wear shorts . We started fishing around 9:00AM and by Lunch time we had four nice male eye’s in the livewell. Then after lunch the bite was tough, it took three hours before we caught three more and then had to call it quits because my batteries went . watch for pic’s and my weekend report Monday. I hope you all have a great and safety weekend.

  5. Well it was a slow bite for me this weekend. Saturday I got skunked. Took my nephew out yesterday and got a couple on 3/8 oz pink lead head with a chartuese tail and a minnow tip. Just a slow retrive casting up river and got 2 walleye. both were spawned out males. Wind and boat control was a factor. We finally gave up about 4pm. Just wish my nephew could catch something! but he still had fun.

I did see a guy Saturday lose 2 nice keepers right at the boat! Don’t think he was to happy.

    good luck!

  6. We were out trolling and vertical jigging tuesday. The bite was slow. Managed to boat one 18 incher on a 35 shad rap. Water is still pretty stained. Visablity is one 6 to 8 inches. Anybody fishing the Anchor Inn tourney on Saturday? He always has some great door prizes. $40 a team. Breakfast at 5:30 and shotgun start at ^am, weigh in at 3pm. Hope to see you all there!

  7. What’s up …..do you have stock in the place or what???!!! Your not going to be their until later, and I’ll still kick your @#@@###!!!!!

  8. Well the Anchor in tournement went off even with the bad weather in the morning. The bite was slow to say the least. Lotsa people trolling and very few catching fish. 15 fish were registered out of 18 teams. The biggest was a 4.32 pounds.

We caught 3 fish all together on 1/8 oz. chartreuse lead head with a matching twister tail. One one being a keeper.
18″, and just shy of 2 lb sauger. That was caught 5 minutes before the tournement ended! which put my team in 5th place. Where did you finish Wallyliner?
Which gave me bragging rights for this year over my Bro!

All in all we had a great time. Good to see you there upnorth and lundman. Take care
