The action is heating up for most species. The combination of less flow and warmer temps has things hopping on the river.
It has been over a week since I have been on the Red Cedar, just too much water flowing. Well the water levels have been dropping and the bite keeps improving. If you are looking for carp and suckers you will not be disappointed. Good action can be had by both species. Hittng the main current areas or the flats off the main current are both holding fish. Plastics or livebait or a combination of the two are taking fish. Ringworms in a variety of colors and doo’s tipped with minnows are two of the better choices.
The warmer temps have put alot more fight in the fish. Livebait rigging is producing some pike action, plasctics are also a good option here. Using doo’s behind Nuckle Ball jigs is producing some smallie action also.
It is a good time to give the river a try if you are looking for some fish to smoke or pickle. See you on the water.
Nice report Don. I have crossed the Red Cedar but never fished it. How is it for Smallies in June?
That is one of the best times to float the river. You can easily have a 100+ fish day. Lots of 14/15inch stuff but there are some bigguns also.
I’ll keep in touch Don…I may come out that way end of June. Sounds like the makins for a good fishin report!
I fished the Red Cedar on Monday. It was a little slow, but I think the cold weather slowed the fish down. It should pick up again now that the weather is warming up!!
Hey fetzer,
Welcome to the board. Let us know if things get hopping.
