Missisippi River Pool 9 Walleyes 3/29/04

Today I met Blue Fleck from the site up on pool 9 to do some fishing and get out of the office. Tom and I got out around noon and started pulling BFT’s Ringworms on 1/4 oz. H20 jigs. Tom started right out by poppin this nice male walleye.Tom had the hot stick all morning pulling the first 6 fish before i could even muster up a bite. But then i pulled out the hand line gear and pulled the next 4 or so walleyes. Most of our fish were coming on the sand in depths of 12-18 feet deep.

Once the wind died down in the late afternoon we put away the hand line gear and pulled out the St.Croix’s and started working the shallows and I connected with my first walleye of the day with the rod and reel.

All and all the bite was pretty good. There were some lull moments in the afternoon and the people that were out in the 20 foot depths were catching lots of small saugers. We ended up with 8 fish for the dinner table and i’m sure these will be very tasty. See ya on the water…

  1. Thanks again Dave! It was great to get out of the office and do some fishing w/ you. Catching those fish handlining was really a treat. I had a great day and I look forward to doing it again.

  2. Just returned from Genoa locks are open and lots of debris coming through. A few fish are being caught on the west side though. There were maybe 8-10 boats there today. Looked like they were catching a few from the barge too. Pretty tough out there with garbage on your jigs most the time.

  3. Was just up ther the past 2 weekends. Couldn’t fish. Had to babysit. Nice eyes! So jealous.
