This report is coming a couple of days late but better late than never. I had the opportunity to share my boat with Outdoor writer Ted Peck and do some hand lining and pitching B_fish_N Tackles Ringworms. We started out the day pulling #7 and #9 floating rapalas and #5 Shallow running Shad Raps…The bite on the cranks was pretty good and we fished most the morning working in and out of the 10-20 foot depth picking up a fish here and there. With the river down it has the walleyes scattered all around. The walleyes we picked up were mostly males in the 16-18 inch range. So after this we decided to pitch some plastics off the front of wing dams and on the sand flats and this was way more productive. We were pulling some real nice males like these out and they were coming mostly on the Fire and Ice Ringworm.
Pitching into the 10 foot depth and letting the current do most of the work was just one way to present our offerings to the walleyes. The current would wash the bait just above the bottom and out in front of the fish and WHAM they would smack it…Fish On Fish like these two that Ted had caught were very common on the water for us.
Another thing we were doing was just dragging the jig behind the boat. Let out 50 60 feet of line and just drag it. Sometimes they might want it snapped back and then let float back down keeping tension on the line and sometimes they would want it just ever so slowly dragged on the bottom.
And as you have seen, there was a third party in my boat these past few days. Hannah the Banana as Ted calls here. She is a very well behaved 3-year-old yellow lab. She and Ted can share my boat any time. Thanks Ted for a real great two days on the river and yes I have subscribed to Wisconsin Sportsman and I’ll be looking for some more of your fishing articles to come. Here is one last pic of the first four walleyes I pulled from the live well for a last picture before we had to go our separate ways…see you on the water…
SUPER!
Nice fish Dave
Great looking fish Dave!!There looks to be a apparition around Hanna’s head in that last picture

Good luck fishing guys
Hi All, Well nice to finnally see that Fishing Machine on here. I went the other direction today just riding, my 9 year old autistic grandson just loves to go for a ride. I’ve been looking all over for the right color ring worm. I was in Dubuque Wednesday and checked the bait shop and in Guttenburg on the way down. Earlier I looked at Cabelas and Starks in Prairie nobody has them. So we took a ride to The Falling Rock and even though they have a nice assortment not the color I was looking for. Didn’t look like too many on the barge, there was one boat on the west side of the channel and 4 or 5 on the east side. Didn’t get to talk to anybody so guess I’m not being much help here. There was a gaggle of boats at Cold Springs though. My son (35) hasn’t decided if we are going tomorrow yet if we do I’ll give you a report. Had some nice filets for supper tonight. I can’t wait to get back out and use the tips I’ve gotten here and from Herb. Darn Turkey hunting is going to interupt things a little.
Fish are cleaned and in the frig. My son (35) and I went up to Genoa this morning about 645. We were catching saugers on a purple and white hair jig tipped with a minnow so I tried ringworms of different colors and just couldn’t get a fish. We caught a few small walleye but no keepers. Tony put on an orange twister tail w/chartreuse hair jig and caught three big saugers in pretty fast order. I tried a similar setup and only caught one small sauger. We ended up keeping 8 saugers. The wind was at least 10 MPH with gusts probably up to 20 but the water was clear (?). Looked like a lot of chartreuse being used and lots of folks were anchored casting. As is normal a couple boats were, as I say “Slaying em” One of those two boats loooked like a Grandpa, Son and Grandsons so that was cool. You could see they were teaching them to jig. Not much of a report but best I can do until I get trained in this new sport myself.
Thought there would be more reports on here by now. I see a few boats have started to fish along BlackHawk and near Victory.I have a question is there any need to or do you use a stinger hook with a wringworm?
Just say no to stingers on the plastics Tom. If they’re hitting short, bite off about an inch of the head of the worm. yummy
Or cut it off.
Thanks Herb, do I have to eat that or just bite it off? What is the reason you forget the stinger?
