Mississippi River Walleye Fishing Report 9-26-11

Wow, what a summer! No, I have not gone in to the witness protection program . This summer has been very busy for me and the family. The middle of July found us moving in to a new house. I have not had internet access (other than my phone) since the move on July 15th. Who would have ever thought living out in the woods would be a setback for internet access now days . Thanks again to those good friends who braved the 110 degree heat index we saw on the day we moved Your help was very much appreciated!

Up until last Sunday, I have only seen the river twice since June 15th . I was fortunate to float my boat for a few hours in the middle of last week and again this weekend. I fished with my son Kaiden on my last outing, we stayed out as long as he was willing to. Dad would hook um and Kaiden was more than willing to, as he would say, “fish them in”!

The typical fall river walleye patterns have put a couple nice walleyes in the boat. Casting hair jigs and crank baits is what has worked for my boat. It felt good to get that “walleye thump” on the end of my jig rod for the first time in over two months ! I have yet to try casting plastics. My guess is the walleye will be more than willing to smash them as well. I have not spent a lot of time in one certain area on the last couple of short outings, been playing the run and gun game trying to pinpoint those walleye for Fall guide trips.

I would also like to take this opportunity to thank the Crew at Skeeter Boat Center for the great service they have provided me the last couple of weeks while transitioning in to a new boat. Thanks to Dave, Dean, Eric and Greg. You guys rock! It’s easy to see why this dealership is soon to be the #1 Skeeter Boat Dealer in the Upper Midwest Take care of the consumer and the rest all falls in to place ! I will have more information on the new boat once I get some hardcore on the water time!

Walleye’s are bitin’…….get out and get fishin’!

When not at work I'm busy playing fishing guide on pools 3 and 4 of the Mississippi River.I will fish Lake Pepin but the bite has to be really good on the lake to get me off of moving water.

  2. As always, awesome fish and report!

You better start sharpening up on you fishing skill now Dustin. It won’t be long and “Kid Stewart” will be taking over big fish catcher!

  3. Great looking son Dustin, happy to hear some fish came on “hair”. Hopefully you didn’t launch by our “BUDDY”?? Mike “Hairjig” Mulqueen

  4. So good to see a report from you Dustin. It is amazing the girth those fish have on already. Dean showed me that picture of the first fish in the new ride. Congrats

  5. Dave, he is 4 1/2 now…..how time goes bye. Looking forward to fishing with you and Dan again this fall

Fishing was good again today. Actually spent most of the day on the water fishing with a couple good friends. Cranks took all of our bigger walleyes except for one that was caught on a hair jig.

  6. Sure great to see you again to start my fall (jig fever!) Dustin!
I like Dave cannot believe how big Kaiden has gotten
I’ll be up the 23-26 Oct and 6-10 Nov… sure hope to see you and buy you a cold one! Of course I will be jealous as hell of the new Skeeter… Still running the ol C-liner

  7. I agree with Dave and Tom! Kaiden is growing so fast! Nice fish buddy. Can’t wait to get back over there to check out your new ride.
