Lake Wisconsin drifting with jigs.

Out on Lake wisconsin with clients Terry and freinds on monday and also Jay and Mike this week thursday. We started out trolling with some fast action and the guys wanted to switch over to do some jigging for the day as well.

We were drifting in about 4.5 to 10 feet of water and targeting over a hump of 3.8 feet of water that was surrounded by 6 feet on one side and 10 foot depth on the channel side. They was a few clouds of bait fish around this area and we were marking some nice fish on the drop offs. The last 2 weeks has been some great fishing in this area trolling over top of it and the boards were running on the out side of the hump. The wind was just right for drifting and jigging the area.

The jigs that we were using in the shallow water these 2 days were 1/16th once stand-up jigs that were hand poured at home and painted with the powder paint. With the stand-up feature of the jigs it holds her bait off the bottom at a slight angle. The colors for the day were orange, red and also purple with no one color was being the hottest, all colors were cathcing fish for the day. The baits were were using were jumbo leeches and a half crawlers . Because of the shallow water , we had our lines at about a 45 degree angle from the boat instead of verticle jigging them and pop jigging them off the bottom seemed to be the key for getting the fish to hit them.

For both days of jigging we had a some slot fish for both days and a couple of keepers for our jigging efforts. Great time teaching the guys on shallow water jigging.
