Lake Wisconsin 14th, 15th,16th trolling report.

I was out fishing with clients Tom Bartel and his grandson Luke for a 3 half days fishing trips. The first day was partly sunny skies, 2nd day was rain all day and the 3rd day was chance of rain and turned out to be a warm partly sunny afternoon. The thunder storms never showed up on the lake as was predicted any of the days.

On the 14th we set up to troll in water depth of 5.8 out to 10 feet of water using number 5 flcker shads and shad raps. The briter colors were the ticket for the day. We were running the boat at 2.2 to 3.0 mph and doing s- turns as well. All 3 days when we had wind and waves or cloud cover it was a pretty good bite. On the 15th we started at noon because of some thunder in the morning. We had heavy rain most of the trip but turned out to be a great day fishing with the biggest walleye, Lukes personal best walleye of 24 1/2 inches long. What a smile he had on his face the rest of the day. On the 16th they were reporting thunder storms both morning and later afternoon so we decided to do the afternoon again for the day.

For trolling we had the shad raps and flickers set from on 30 to 40 feet from the in-line boards. We also did 2 lead core rods wiith 40 to 60 feet of lead core out. I ussually run two more long line poles staight out the back, but decided not to run them because we were on a fast bite. At one time we had 4 of the boards with walleye on at once so Luke would watch to see which one was bigger and we would get that one in first. Lots of times we had doubles for the 3 days. We got bit off a few times by the toothy critters and on one board the board got hit so hard that the board junp back about a foot out of the water and Luke had a huge fish on for awhile but was bit off again. We figure it was a muskie the way it hit.

Over all it was great to be out with new freinds and a very enjoyable 3 day trip with these two. It was great to see the smiles on Luke’s face all 3 day. For the 3 half day trips we boated over a hundred walleyes and saugers. 3 northerns and some whitebass well..

  1. The bite has certainly been pretty good the last few weeks. Have you been getting any crappies? I’m not getting as many trolling this year as last year, but the ones I’ve picked up have all been giants.
