This past Saturday the 1st Annual Perch Pounder was held at White Cap Inn on the eastside of Mille Lacs. The day was windy and cloudy with ice/snow in the air….not the best day for fishing. This was truly a great day for good cheer, great food, and big winners!
[censored] and Sue Robertson recent new owners of White Cap Inn put on this event. They provided some nice prizes and had a free pig roast to cure the hungry fisherman! The grand prize for biggest perch was $300 for 1st place $200 2nd place and $100 for 3rd.
The winning perch was caught by Travis Rosenbaum of St.Michael. His prize winning fish was 1.4 lbs shown above. Travis and his father Dennis from Madison Wisc. fished the deep mud in around 30 feet. On this day Travis wasn’t sharing all the facts about the day with your’s truly….I did hear him say that the big fish hit a gold colored jigging spoon. Dennis was just edged out for 3rd place with his biggest perch of the day. A few ounces and the Rosenbaum’s would have been sharing the stage together! Bob Krueger from Isle caught the 3rd place perch good for $100 way to go Bob!
The perch action on Mille Lacs will continue to provide some big perch till the end of the month. The local resorts have stopped plowing the lake roads so most travel will be with snowmobile and ATV.
