Thanks guys! I’ll have to add all of these to my tackle box before opener. I appreciate the fast responses
February 7, 2014 at 8:25 pm #1386929Does it get annoying when the water freezes? I’m used to the thermal tip ups. Is it all that bad?
February 1, 2014 at 12:44 pm #1385026Thanks James!! I think I’ll go attempt to go pick some up. Last time I went the whole VMC shelf was completely cleared.
January 12, 2014 at 4:16 pm #1379207Hello, I have too been wondering the same thing. I also fish Green Lake, mostly for crappies this year. I’ve heard that guys fishing the channels have been catching walleyes. The channel that connects south green to north green is about 8-12 fow. You sould (as im going to do) go check the lastest information about Green Lake at Frankie’s Baitshop on Hwy 8. If you end up finding something that works, comment back.

Been looking at the lazer synthetic hand auger, do the lazer augers cut faster/easier compared to the mora?
I had a mora. Just got rid of it this year! I spent a little more for a lazer auger. It is the BEST hand auger for the price.it cuts a hole in the ice like a knife to butter. There is no needed downward pressure, just a little though to keep it straight. I got so frustrated with my mora. The blades on the mora are just really bad! They are really sensative to pitch, meaning you have to buy new blades a lot. Now, for the new synthetic auger, I’ve heard it good. I heard from a guy on here that the only difference is about a pound and 70$. So all I can say is spend a little extra to get a LOT extra!! Hope this helps

You can catch them all day, but IMO the best time is the “magic hour”. The last half hour of daylight and first half hour of darkness.
A couple times I can remember not catching much and then saying “well I’ll fish til dark and then head home” and the fish go like crazy in the magic hour. Most of the time I’m catching fish as fast as I can drop it down all the way until I can’t see the rod tip anymore.
One day me and buddy stayed so late catching fish that we had to take turns. He’d shine his phone light on my rod so I could catch a fish, then I’d shine mine on his. Sucks when you forget the lantern!
One tip I will give, if you stay that late without a lantern.. be sure to put all of your stuff away in the daylight… putting a cover on an auger and packing up stuff when you can barely see your hands SUCKS.
Hahaha, I can relate with you… I have experienced a very dark fishing trip already this year. I forgot the lantern and the flashlights. Let’s just say, that won’t happen again
January 3, 2014 at 12:10 pm #1376497I was out on green lake using small ratso jigs and caught some really nice crappies. Seven in total in about an hour.
January 3, 2014 at 9:42 am #1376436Definitely battery. I just put my vexilar on the charger because it was low, and it was doing that. It sounded like a weak spring with no colors.

Don’t forget to let it sit very very still as well. On days they rush in for a look, the trigger might be letting it sit with no movement at all for 10-15 seconds. Happened just last weekend. Two guys in a shack and the only one getting bit was the guy with no flasher, and all but dead sticking a small bait tipped with a waxie. A dozen fish (perch/crappie) later and we, too learned the bite.
I’ll definitely give this a try!

You have to keep multiple lures/jigs in different sizes colors in the arsenal and change often to see what they are “hungry” for. Also try changing up the jigging speed, line twist… So many vaiables. There are often times when I’m out, I’ll change my set up 10-15 times before I get a bite. Where were you and what were you fishing for?
I was fishing Green Lake. It’s by Chisago, Mn. I was trying to fish for walleye. I tried the buckshot, swedish pimples, and a slender spoon.

I’ve seen some other posts on here about the Trigger x mustache worms. Has anyone else had and good results with them? If you what was your set up?
Check out the latest Episode about perch/crappie on IDO, If I remember correctly James was using the mustache worms for the slabs and he explains the setup quite well. You will also get amped up after watching James and Joel pull in so many fish, so now you have 2 good reasons to see the show!
Thanks. That is a pretty good episode. I think I’ll have to give them a try for sure!
December 17, 2013 at 8:58 pm #1372233Are 1/8 buckshot and slender spoons with a minnow head good too?
December 17, 2013 at 8:40 pm #1372224When drilling more holes hole, how far would be a general rule of drilling them from one another?
December 14, 2013 at 9:10 am #1371291I was on green lake a couple days ago. There was like ten inches. To double check on the lake you want to fish, I would call Frankie’s Bait, they would be able to tell you
December 10, 2013 at 8:13 pm #1370464Is there much difference between the lazer and the new synthetic lazer hand augers?
December 9, 2013 at 9:37 pm #1370162For shims, would you just cut a piece of an aluminum pop can and put it between the blade and the auger? Not sure never done it. Thanks
December 9, 2013 at 5:08 pm #1370059I belive Northern Tool in forest lake sevices a lot of stuff like that. I was in there and saw a auger being serviced .
December 9, 2013 at 1:32 pm #1369985The blades appear to be correctly installed. I tried to put plastic and a penny between the blade to try to angle the blade more.
December 9, 2013 at 11:03 am #1369926So, today I tried to put plastic under the blade to that it might cut more into the ice, and it dint seem to work. When I would try to cut a hole, it would just spin on me.
