the rate this season went the record would have change hands once a week, also what would be the point in killing a fish like that?

iuse 55W HID’s mounted on the front of my boat. It was like $100 for the pair or something like that. HID’s will be less draw to the battery. I think I have the euro pair which is half spot half flood.

Good point. Battery draw is significant for the bigger spot and flood lights. Start running 2-4 of them at once, and you will easily outpace the charge rate that your outboard can produce.

I’ve wondered about the new LED variety. Are they bright enough? Anyone tried them?

    Grouse

thats why i have two separate batteries to run my lights, i run two 35w 7″ HID euro beams, they have always been enough light for where i drive.

the back water will have no current as long as the river is low enough, which it should be right now

i can only comment on the striker suit cause thats what i own, but i have the climate suit which is the one with the removable liners, the liner for the jacket is another jacket you can wear and the bibs is a quilted liner, they are very warm only need the liners for the very cold days but only if im not going to be in a house at all otherwise i never have the liners in during the winter, pretty much the only time i use them is in the early spring and late fall sturgeon fishing from the boat.

Definitely won’t get close to the channels! Do I need to be concerned with the ice along the shoreline? I hear its been a little warm and rainy up that way lately…

it should be plenty froze back up by then.

stay on the beaten path, if you go on carsons make sure you park in the right areas, there are walleyes in that entire lake, some bays are better than the others also some decent crops in there too to keep you entertained till the walts move in.

Does anyone know where to get the castration rings for attaching ice reels? I got some last year at the ice show I think they were made by cold snap??? I’ve never seen any for sale…

you can get them from cold snaps website.

i thought about doing this same thing but only on the back of the bench, has anyone tried that before, my cabin is the first flip i have owned so im looking for ways to make things faster and easier.

I thought about that as well, but now I’m thinking about removing the bench seating, leaving the bottom frame and adding 2 swivel seats and a table top between the seats. Not sure about this yet but I would love to have an area to set things on and in the lodge it could be a pretty good sized area with drink holders and more.

yea that would give you tons of space.

I have this rod case…..By far the best out there. I got 6 custom ice rods all @ 36″ in there with tons of room to spare. There is loads of tackle tray storage in this thing as well….is it pricey? Yes I paid about $125 at the ice show for this, but I know for a fact that none of my rods will ever be damaged when in this case…..When a person spends 600-800+ on rods, reels, tackle, why not protect the investment. My $.02

    what brand is it?

i just got the cabin 650, i think it will be plenty warm, so far low is all i have needed on the buddy to stay warm, but i also have a striker climate suit so thats almost like wearing a ice house it self.

Is the Sufix Ice braid really good to use outside the shack in below freezing temps? I tried regular PP outside the shack last year and it was no good. Please, be honest as I’d like to use braid for jigging pike outside the shack this year.

i have had nothing but problems using braid outside when its cold out.

a quick google search will give you about 1 million different options, i made mine for around 20 bucks, got the skis at goodwill and the lumber at HD in the throw away section, they call it “call lumber” sell it for pennies

I ordered from Cabelas yesterday. 1st time they didn’t sound confident they’ll have them by the 21st. I kind of figured i would be able to get some from resorts up there if cabelas doesn’t come through.

when will you be up there?

should be a min of 12″ from the prop even more if you can, also depending on which way your prop rotates will determine which side of the boat to mount it on, also stay clear of rows of rivets and anything else that cause turbulence

well i learned yesterday the breakaway part works just fine, had a small log find its way under the boat, but i think i may have hit a triple when mounting it, little more placement fine tuning and should be good to go.
