Those units don’t share the map data only the waypoints, routes, etc so it will not effect them at all to have different chips in two units that are networked. I have even gone as far as having a navionics and a lakemaster chip in my helix at the same time and just bounced between the two to see which was more accurate for where I was fishing that day and had no problems on that unit or the others that are connected to it through the network.

This happens when people abuse the system unfortunately. Its not just Rapala…

I luckily haven’t had any issues with Rapala lures so far.

I completely agree the prices of the VIP rapala stuff has gone up due to people abusing it but that is why there is a cap on it too. I have a VIP login myself and just looked at the shad raps in question and I can get them for $4.79/ea so $5.40 isn’t bad at all.

I have a number of the okuma cold water low profile reels on all of my kokanee salmon rods and I have been very pleased so far. If you have any specific questions about them just ask.

If all you are doing is networking the two helix units together and not connecting a minnkota (link) all you will need is a dongle for each unit and an ethernet cord that is long enough to run between them and you will be able to do everything that you mentioned.

What kind of dewalt batteries and how many do you have already? Or else I also recently got a stihl 170, nice little gas saw.

I’ve just got a bunch of the 20V max batteries right now. After doing a little research it looks like a stihl 171 would be the best option. Or a husqvarna 135. In my research I did come across the husqvarna 536li which is their version of a 40V electric saw that only weighs 5.29 pounds without the battery or cutting equipment. The battery weighs 2.87 pounds so all together you would be around the 9 pound mark which isn’t too bad at all.

I’m in the market for a limbing saw and you guys have peaked my interest. I have a lot of dewalt tools and have been happy with all of them. I use wood as my main source of heat in my house with my blaze king stove so I cut a fair amount of wood each year. I have a husqvarna 562xp with 24″ bar. The problem is with that long of a bar it is a little cumbersome to limb out trees after I have dropped them (I cut 20″ diameter trees or so). So I am in the market for a light weight some what affordable (not $900 like my 562) limbing saw. Would you guys think that one of these would fit the bill? I’ll do some more research but it seems like it would be an option.

Networking question. I have a Helix 10 SI Gen 1. If I bought a G2 Helix with networking (i.e. HELIX 7 CHIRP GPS G2N) – will the two share waypoints and imaging?

    Yes they will

I’m getting a boat with the helix 9 si on the console but also want to have a helix 7 si up front going off a terrova. Can the 9 ducer be shut off so both units are using the terrova and both units using the 9 ducer on the transom when the terrova is not down?

Yes they can as long as everything is networked you can choose which transducer that is hooked into the network you want displayed on either graph at any time.

You only need the cheapest one (the card only) if all you want is more storage for your autochart live maps. The others come with the PC program along with the zero lines card, there is a normal version as well as a pro version of the PC program. You should be able to find just the zero lines card for about $80 if you shop around a bit.

So does the “N2170” on the tag mean its a gen 2 unit or am I missing something?

If it is a gen 2 unit it would have G2N on the front of the unit somewhere as well as in the name. I would say that this is a gen 1 helix 12 side imaging unit.

Helix 9/10/12 gen 1 or 2 will network with Helix 7 g2n, any other Helix 9/10/12 gen 1 or 2, and minn kota iLink. Helix 5/7 gen 1 or g2 will not network with anything.

    What he said.

I’ve got a gen 1 helix 12 hooked up to my 9 up front no problem. Only problem is none of them can share lake maps so you need a chip in each unit. I think that’s even the same in the g2 units. Not sure if the 7 will link up

On the helix series you can share waypoints and transducers between units but not maps. In order to get that capability you will need to go to the Solix series.

I’m using the same one as Poomunk. In the attached picture you can see the mounting bracket under that center LED light. A half turn and it comes out and has been great so far. For what it is worth my dealer said to stray away from the my wedge because it doesn’t actually take any of the weight off the transom it just helps with the motor bouncing. That being said my dad has one on his F200 on his Skeeter and has never had a problem.

I got a 16 1/2″ perch this year. Do you know what that one weighed? Mine was just over 2.5 pounds.

    Francis,

That’s the exact same setup I have, but find with Ipilot I don’t spend too much time in the front anymore. My 9 only gets used if someone is with me

I have the same thing happen in my boat. I troll mainly and the only time the bow unit gets used is if I stop and jig or cast the bank or something. I am considering rigging up a third station at the rear of the boat to just pop my bow unit out and plug it back in in the back so that when I am turned around while trolling I can still have a graph to look at.

Has to be a Helix 7 or above or the older legacy units.

And if considering a helix 7 it has to be a G2N not just a G2. All Gen 1 9/10/12 units will network or the old 800/900/1100 series will as well. And all the new G2N 9/10/12 helixes will as well.

You can share the DI, but not the lake map. Helix units can’t share map chips

I thought I was told that the SmartStrike chips allow you to share images of lake maps between units. I may be wrong on this.

    Anyone?

You can only share mapping on the old onix or the new solix series. Helix don’t have that capability so each individual unit must have its own lake card.

Hey guys I think I know my answer to my question but maybe not. If I buy say a helix 7 g2n with the DI/GPS/Sonar capabilities then buy like the Sonar only model or whatever, the cheapest model, can I share my DI and GPS to my cheaper unit if they’re running off of the same transducer? Thanks!!

If you buy the Helix 7 G2N DI and then a Helix 7 G2N sonar/gps you will be able to share your DI and sonar readings from one to the other. Each unit will have its own internal GPS to use. If you want to add one more thing to the network past the two units like an ipilot link system you will need a 5 port ethernet box.

If it were me I’d get it included in your purchase and be done with it. Any good dealer will be able to get you the correct prop for your application. I did that with mine and I was worried about the prop that they got me because I am at a higher altitude than what they are used to and they hit the nail on the head first try. If for some reason the prop isn’t right I would think that a good dealer would exchange it for you as well.

I love VMC tungsten flies, but at the high price for a 1/32 ounce jig the tied wrap around the hook shank falls apart in a real hurry. My recent ones became bare, plain glow white jigs after maybe a dozen perch clamped onto them.

Ive had the exact same thing happen but I still buy more of them. They fall apart quick when catching a lot of fish but hey at least your catching a lot of fish.

I have noticed a general decline in quality of all the different brands that are owned by that company ie Rapala lure Jensen, VMC, etc. Look at a new Krocodile spoon they don’t even look like the same spoon anymore.

Haha good point! Not saying that our team hasn’t done it just saying it is unprofessional. I don’t like seeing our team do it anymore than yours actually dislike it more when it is our team. Same reason I can’t stand to watch the NFL anymore.

On a lighter note it was sure nice to see the Aves play well against the wild for once. Seems like for the last couple years it is usually a team we can’t play well against.

    Sorry for my rant.

Is there currently any “deals” on them? I know there was a deal a while back for around $29 per reel?

I don’t know of any deals but the going rate is $39 or so. If you can find a $10 off coupon for somewhere or even a 10-15% off deal it would be your best bet. I just ordered two of the C-10s along with two of the ABF-B 20 bait feeders from Okuma and they should be here next week just in time for my trip to Cascade Idaho!

You can’t beat pheasants for the awe factor when they flush. Here is a pic of 3 limits worth of wild birds in Wyoming from Friday.

You’ll be happy with that set up for sure. Sorry I can’t help with a link for those parts that you will need but talk to your dealer they should be able to help you out. When mounting that new seat base make sure to back it up with a piece of quality marine grade wood where ever you mount it.

I would go with the 80lb terrova if I were you. You already said that you will have a kicker as well so there is really no need for the extra thrust out of the electric. I have a 80lb terrova with link on my 1775 crossover and it will push me around just fine up to about 2.3 mph. If I want more than that I just start the kicker and use it in conjunction with the terrova. This set up will also save you some weight and money not having that third battery up front. I would take your savings and put it toward the Helix 10 instead of the 9. I have the 10 at the helm as well in my boat and it has been great. One thing to note is the helix 9 and 10 are the exact same size the 9 just has a smaller screen in it. The 10 also has a higher resolution screen (more pixels/square inch) than the 9. I also have the rod holders on the sport track the ram trolling motor support etc like you are looking at so if you have any questions feel free to ask.

A couple things to note before you make your decision. The Ice version is a chirp/sonar/gps G2 model and will not have side imaging or down imaging capabilities. For a lot of walleye type anglers that isn’t a big deal because you will just hook the bow unit into the US2 sonar on the trolling motor but if you are wanting to run SI/DI off the trolling motor with an additional transducer you can’t do that if you buy the ice model.

The more important thing to note is that the ice model is just a G2 not a G2N meaning it can’t be networked with other humminbird fish finders on the boat or a minnkota with link. That is what makes it a deal breaker for me, I like all of my units to talk on the boat so I would have to buy the Chirp/Sonar/Gps G2N model and then buy the ice ducer and ice pack for it (they sell all of that together as a kit as well).

    Hope that helps

So what batteries are you guys running for these. I switched to the Helix 7 G2 last year and ended up using a large battery to make it all day. Has anyone ran a lithium battery on a helix with better results?

I am running mine on the lithium shuttle, fished for over 8 hours yesterday and still had 50% battery life left. I am running the Helix 7 G2 also.

Do you have a picture of the helix 7 mounted on the lithium shuttle? I’m considering doing the same but was concerned about the size in relationship to the shuttle itself.
