I had friends that fished it, seems like it was pretty good some years back, then Eurasian milfoil got in the lake and choked it up pretty good. I haven’t heard recently if the lake is better or not. Sorry I cannot be more help.

What he said about Mille Lacs. The reports are not good. Most likely a waste of your time from everything that I’ve heard. I’m heading to Winni this weekend. Will post report on that forum.
I’ve got some PM’s from others saying the same thing, Dont go to Mille Lacs because the Perch population is low. I was just up to Winnie two weeks ago, fishing was ok. Couldnt really get around because of all the snow.
Thanks to everyone for all the input.

Thanks guys, Ill pull the trigger then and get one. How much improvement am I going to get going from a 2hp Tecumseh to a Solo?
I wouldn’t say Night and Day, if they both have equally sharp lazer blades and both are running at their best, you will be impressed by the Solo motor’s power and rpms.
One of the guys I work with has the 2 HP Tecumseh model that was just before the solo with Lazer blades and it cuts really well, but my 2.5 HP Solo makes it look slow. So the 2 HP Solo should be right behind the 2.5 HP Solo
My 2hp Tecumseh alwasys started and ran really well, had no complaints there. What I was always frustrated with was that when drilling it would bogg down, even with new blades. Also, right when the blades were ready to punch through the bottom of the ice the blades would catch and stop drilling. I have been fishing with a fwe guys that have solo’s and they never have any of the problems I have. I’m thinking that the higher RPM’s from the solo and extra torque will take care of my issues.

I’m going to head west tomorrow and to check on the bite. Hopefully have a good report to share.
Any info would be helpful. One week from now Ill be up there and lake conditions are going to put a hamper on getting around.
February 12, 2013 at 12:33 am #1140666I heard there is alot of snow on the lakes up there and its going to be hard to get anywhere in trucks.
February 8, 2013 at 1:30 am #1139242I know some guys that just got back from Bitter Lake in SD. They did pretty good on the perch, lots of 11-12 inchers. I might make a trip there next year……
On another note, nobody really has any info on Winnie. I don’t know how promissing this year is going to be.
Going to have to do more of this

have not seen any reports come from Winni, what has been going on? There’s a couple groups of fellow IDO’ers driving up in a few weeks for the last weekend of walleye/pike season, but we are really after the perch. Anything is appreciated, and if any info is good, Woody will buy you a couple beers.
If all it cost’s me is a couple of beers to get on fish, then I’ll buy away!

There is a small set screw that might be loose on the side of the knob.
Calvin,
That is one crisp “up close” picture. I could never take a pic that clear with my driod phone. Did you use a cell or regular digital camera to take that?
Galaxy III camera phone….super nice phone.
I’ve heard great things about them….might have to upgrade.

Not sure if I can blame Ethonol. However despite my best efforts to maintain everything including using fuel additives (Seafoam and Stabill) my snow blower wouldn’t start when needed. It did run this fall just fine.
Tipped it over and dumped the gas out. Put in fresh gas and it worked again.
Last summer I replaced a fuel line in the boat. Cut the old line open and found a lot of amver crystalized deposits in the line.
I have had one other experience that I am not sure the cause of.
I used to be whatever about gas, but I am thinking it may be time to switch no non-ethonol gas. Are you guys using stabill or seafoam in non-ethonol?
Do you store your machines dry (run them dry before storing)?
In the 3 augers I’ve owned I have always left a small amount of gas in the tank and gas in the carb. I always put sea foam in the gas even though its non-ethonol to keep it stable in the off season. The reason I don’t run my carb dry is because I was under the impression that the diaphragm and seals in the carb would dry out throughout the summer. Once a month I start the auger and run it so it doesn’t sit for 8 months with no use. Seems to keep everything in good running order.

We did however make the dumbest rookie mistake; in the excitement of locating fish in a new area and making swiss cheese out of the lake we forgot to grab the pail from the truck; and began piling the fish in one spot. Since we were the only two fisherman within a half mile of anybody of course someone had to drive by park their truck about 100 yards away and literally run over to us. Now I wouldn’t have been mad until he ran direclty over to our fish kicked the pile to spread them out to take a look and then has the nerve to ask us if we are doing any good without ever looking at our faces. Now I can get pissed every now and again but I stayed focused on fishing; however my buddy who is much larger than I am just about came unglued. Lets just say at one point I dropped my rod and stood up because I thought he was going to pummel this guy as he continued spread our fish out to get a better look at what we had.
I probably would have had a few choice words for this guy too! Just reading this made me disgusted. There is stuff like this that happens every year where you wonder why so many people are losing respect for others.
Thanks for the report. Ill be up at Winnie in less than a month now.
January 25, 2013 at 7:04 pm #1134784Im heading up/over to the Donner Tourney this weekend. I try to never miss one.

My Mako was $10 less at L&M in Hayward two weeks ago. If the units last those are good prices for an auger.
Suzuki,
What you doing up in this neck of the woods? L&M is a great store in Hayward. As good or better than a Fleet Farm, and its in a small community so people don’t have to drive too far for quality products. Did you find any fish in the area?
January 10, 2013 at 1:50 pm #1128946I just ordered a TUC noodle from John Last night. Very excited to see how it performs! With everyone giving them rave reviews I’m confident I made a good investment.
December 21, 2012 at 7:25 pm #1122842I’ll be up over Christmas trying to find the eyes. I will report anything of interest. Happy Holidays.
December 19, 2012 at 4:10 pm #1121942What do the lake conditions look like now? With the rain over the weekend it must have melted the snow. We have some cold temps coming up here soon so hopefully that puts some ice on.
December 13, 2012 at 9:01 pm #1120181Thanks for the reports. I have heard of a few guys fishing in some of the bays and doing decent on eyes. They were saying that they were seeing 3-4 inches most of the time. Still pretty dangerous out there.

Lazer Mag Express with the 2 hp tecumseh.
After a little research last night and a blown up view of the carb, I found I am missing the metering lever spring. Once I have that I should be ready to hit the ice.
I rebuilt my carb last year on my 2hp Tecumseh. If the engine still doesn’t run right with the missing spring you might have to adjust the metering lever itself. The part of the lever that touches the little dimple on the diaphragm might have to be bent up to allow enough fuel to flow when the throttle is pressed. It took me 3 adjustments of the metering lever to get mine to run right. Each time i was only bending it in very small increments. I think my auger runs better now than it ever did when it was new. Hopefully this helps. Any more questions PM me.
Good Luck.

I think $6,500 would be a very fair price, if the rest of the boat is in good shape, and has some electronics on it.
In the pictures it looks like the boat will come with a trolling motor, but I couldn’t tell if it had any sonar/fish locator. The description is very brief where it is listed.

Boat Trader has one listed at $5600.00, but that is from a dealer. What is the overall boat package and price?
The package is a 2001 Alumacraft 16 FT tiller with the 2010 40hp ETEC. The guy is asking $7000. I have seen similar boats with 4 stroke engines for a little less. I was to a boat show last year and a new 16 Ft tiller, 4 stroke, and trailer was going for $9,500. That it what I am using my price reference as. I was hoping that I could offer the guy $5,500 to $6,000 for his boat setup. If I couldn’t get it for that then I have to look for something else.

What is it about Door County that seems to grow monster fish of all species? I’ve read about it for years, it must be time to get it on the bucket list.
I think Chequamegon Bay up by Ashland/Washburn WI area on Lake Superior is the same way Door County and Green Bay is. Large fish of all species and clear deep water really has me excited to give it a try.
